Tasty Veg Uttapam


Uttapam is a tasty South Indian breakfast and the recipe is almost similar to a dosa, but slightly thicker than normal dosa. Today we present you Mixed Vegetable Uttapam which is light on stomach and more nutritional.

The little time it takes to prepare a Uttapam and the delicious taste of it will surprise you with a very simple recipe.

Here is the recipe of Mixed Vegetable Uttapam. We hope you will like it.


Dosa Batter – 2 cups                                       Salt – ¾ Tbsp.

Oil – 2 Tbsps.                                                    Grated Carrot – 3 Tbsps.

Onions – 1 Big (Chopped)                             Green Chili – 2 (Chopped)

Jeera/Cumin – ½ Tbsp.

Dosa Batter Preparation Method:
  1. Take 1 cup of Urad dal, 2 cups of Rice and 1 Tbsp fenugreek seeds in a bowl and soak for about 5 hours.
  2. After soaking for 5 hours , grind them into a smooth paste by adding water. See that the mixture comes out to be into a medium consistency (not too thick or too watery)

Uttapam preparation Method:

    1. Take a medium bowl and mix onions,Jeera, grated carrot & chopped green chili. Keep it aside.
    2. Take a tawa & heat it on medium flame and add ½ Tbsp. of oil to it.
    3. Add salt to the dosa batter, mix well and pour one ladle of dosa batter and spread circularly on tawa.
    4. Now top the Utappa with the onion carrot mixture we had prepared in step 1, press gently.
    5. Spread ½ table spoon of oil on the top and on to the edges of uttapam.
    6. After 2 mins carefully flip the dosa and cook on the other side.
    7. Reduce the flame after flipping the Utappa. {High flame will burn the toppings on the Utappam}
    8. Let the Utappa stay on tawa over this low flame for 2 more minutes.
    9. Once it is cooked , remove the Utappam from the tawa and serve it hot with coconut chutney or Samabar.




  1. Finely chopped Paneer, capsicum, French beans and tomato can also be used as toppings.
